Two organisations across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot are set to benefit from £338,951 through the latest round of Ynni Cymru funding, helping them reduce energy costs, lower carbon emissions and invest more in the people and communities they serve.

The projects are among 24 organisations across Wales set to receive a share of £8.27 million through the programme's third round of funding.

Swansea Mosque and Islamic Community Centre, which supports around 5,000 visits each week through its religious, educational and community activities. The funding will be used to add battery storage and a hybrid heat pump system, helping reduce running costs and improve energy efficiency.

The centre provides a range of services for local people, including a food bank, baby bank, youth activities and educational programmes. Savings generated through the project will help support these services and plans to provide warm packs for people accessing the centre's food bank during the winter months.

Funding has also been awarded to Pontardawe Golf Club, helping the club reduce its energy costs and environmental impact. The project will support the long-term sustainability of the facility, allowing more resources to be focused on the club and the wider community it serves.

Ynni Cymru is a Welsh Government programme that helps communities, businesses and public services create and use their own clean energy. It supports projects that help lower energy bills and bring benefits to local areas.

Since launching in 2023, the programme has supported more than 80 projects across Wales. This third round of funding will provide £8.27 million to 24 organisations, including two projects in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, bringing total investment through Ynni Cymru to more than £31 million.

Hasan Miah at Swansea Mosque and Islamic Community Centre, said:

“We are much more than a place of worship. Every day, people come through our doors for support, companionship, learning and practical help.

“This investment will help ensure the centre remains a warm and welcoming place for older people, families with children and those experiencing financial hardship, while allowing us to continue supporting the community for years to come.”

Cabinet Minister for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy, Adam Price, said:

“I'm delighted that Swansea Mosque and Islamic Community Centre and Pontardawe Golf Club are benefiting from this latest round of Ynni Cymru funding.

“Both organisations are all using clean energy to reduce costs, and this in turn protects services such as food banks, educational and community activities, while also supporting the long-term future of valued local facilities that bring people together through sport and recreation.

“Ynni Cymru is delivering the Welsh Government's vision for greener, cheaper energy, owned and used by people and communities across Wales.”
