Cabinet Minister for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy, Adam Price, is in Boston this week to build new trade and investment links in artificial intelligence, technology, and digital sectors.
The visit, from 12 to 16 October, includes meetings with technology companies, investors and business leaders with connections to Wales. The technology companies include Sublime Systems, a Boston-based cement company, supporting low carbon construction, and Microchip Technology, a semiconductor manufacturer, which has a base in Caldicot.
The Minister will also meet with companies in life sciences and energy to discuss investment and trade opportunities with Wales.
He will attend the Ministerial Summit of the Disruptive & Emerging Technologies Alliance (DETA), a global network of 21 governments working together on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, quantum technologies and digital rights. Wales is a founding member of the Alliance.
And will also deliver a talk at Harvard University's Growth Lab titled "Can Small Nations Compete and Win in the Age of AI? The Case of Wales," discussing how Wales is using AI adoption, clean energy and skills development to drive economic growth.
The visit will also include engagement with the Welsh diaspora in the Boston area, supporting the Welsh Government's commitment to develop a Diaspora Strategy, which will promote Wales as a place for diaspora entrepreneurs to invest, and encourage and incentivise recent emigrants to return.
Cabinet Minister for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy said:
"Boston is one of the world's most dynamic technology hubs, and this visit is about putting Wales firmly on the map as a partner of choice for AI and technology investment. By meeting investors, businesses and our diaspora community, we are opening doors that will bring jobs and opportunities back home. Returning to Harvard to speak about Wales' place in the AI revolution is a chance to show that a small nation can compete and win on the global stage."
