Global electronics company, Panasonic, has today cemented its ongoing commitment to Wales by announcing an up to £20m investment in its facility in Cardiff.

Responding to the Vishay announcement, Welsh Economy Minister Vaughan Gething said:

• £40m investment will help refurbish the 150-year-old Holyhead Breakwater, which is gradually being eroded by the Irish Sea.
• The superstructure – the longest in the UK - provides essential protection to the Port of Holyhead which protects the infrastructure and allows ships to dock safely.

Minister for the Economy, Vaughan Gething, has today (Monday, October 16) unveiled a first-of-its-kind action plan between a devolved nation and Innovate UK setting out how Wales will build a strengthened innovation economy.

Economy Minister, Vaughan Gething will today begin a series of talks with business leaders, trade experts and entrepreneurs in Atlanta and Birmingham (Alabama) to discuss how US economic policy is creating growth in places in need of investment and support. 

Welsh Minister for Economy Vaughan Gething is visiting Birmingham, Alabama to mark 60 years since the racist bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church which killed four Black girls, Addie Mae Collins (14), Cynthia Morris Wesley (14), Carole Robertson (14), and Carol Denise McNair (11) in 1963. The Minister, who is the first Black Minister of all of the UK's devolved administrations encompassing Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, will reaffirm the historic relationship between Wales and Birmingham through a new International Friendship Pact.  

The Welsh Government has become a signatory of an alliance of European regional governments, promoting growth, fostering collaboration, and developing strong value chains in the semiconductor industry.

Wales’ Economy Minister, Vaughan Gething has welcomed the news the UK will have continued access to Horizon Europe, the EU’s flagship €100 billion research and innovation programme.

A £45 million investment will more than double Wales’ plastic reprocessing capacity and create over 100 new jobs at the former Toyoda Gosei factory in Swansea.
