Among the investment put forward by the Welsh Government is:

  • Additional £145m to help patients be seen more quickly by the NHS
  • £55m to help hundreds more families access funded childcare for their two-year-olds
  • £15m to ensure more secondary school pupils that need them can receive free school meals.
  • Extra £60m for Additional Learning Needs

Welsh Ministers have restated their commitment to the priorities that matter most to people in Wales ahead of the Supplementary Budget being voted on in the Senedd tomorrow.

Totalling £354m, the Supplementary Budget supports the Welsh Government in cutting NHS waiting times, expanding childcare, extending free school meals, and increasing funding for Additional Learning Needs following an agreement with Welsh Labour.

Among the investments, £145m is being driven into the NHS to help patients be seen more quickly, £55m is helping hundreds more families access funded childcare for their two-year-olds and £15m is ensuring more secondary school pupils from families on Universal Credit can receive free school meals.

The Cabinet Minister for Finance Elin Jones said:

"The people of Wales have told us what matters most, and this Supplementary Budget delivers on those priorities.

“We are investing carefully so that every pound makes the greatest difference: shorter NHS waiting times, more childcare for families and better public services. We are also providing an extra £60m for Additional Learning Needs, so that every child gets the support they need to thrive."

The Supplementary Budget will be debated and voted on in the Senedd tomorrow (Tuesday 3 November). It provides the foundations for the Welsh Government’s Draft Budget, which will be published on Tuesday 17 November, setting out spending plans for the coming years.
