A ‘Hole’ lot of fixing going on - More than 21,000 potholes fixed or prevented in North Wales

More than 21,000 potholes across 43 miles of road in North Wales have been fixed or prevented in the last six months.
Since April the Welsh Government has been working closely with local councils to deliver on its commitment of ‘Fixing our roads’.
The local government borrowing initiative has enabled local councils across Wales to fix or prevent around107,000 potholes across 216 miles of local roads in Wales. Whilst on the Strategic Road Network (SRN) around 24,000 potholes have been fixed or prevented on more than 50 miles of road in the same period, thanks to Welsh Government funding.
Main roads fixed in North Wales include the scenic A5 through Nant Ffrancon in the Eryri National Park, the Porthmadog bypass and A470 at Blaenau Ffestiniog
Work is continuing with resurfacing set to take place on the A55 Dobbs Hill to Ewloe in Flintshire.
Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales Ken Skates said:
“Fixing our roads is a priority for this government.
“We are only six months into this programme, but I am delighted with the fantastic progress that’s been made so far, and there’s a lot more to come.
“We are now seeing the results of the additional £25m investment in our main roads, and the support for our local authorities to fix local roads.
“This work is already making a real difference to communities across Wales, addressing long-standing issues now, to make our roads more resilient for the future.”

- The local government borrowing initiative provides an extra £10m of revenue funding to local councils to enable them to unlock an additional £120m over two years of capital funding to accelerate the process of fixing our local roads and pavements.
- In January, this year we announced an extra £25m to fix and prevent potholes on the SRN, for those roads in most need of repair. Since 2021 the Welsh Government has spent more than £81m on resurfacing around 321km of roads on the trunk network across Wales. Combined with the forecasted spend for 2025-26 this means that by the end of this Senedd term £118m will have been spent to repair more than 500km of road defects and potholes.
